ABOUT ME
Dr Nicholas A. Sparks, BA (Hons) M.LIS (Librarianship), PhD (Cantab), ASA Recognised Professional (ASARP).
I am a cultural heritage consultant, historian and valuer with more than 20 years of experience in libraries, archives, universities, and cultural institutions.
I hold a BA(Hons) from the University of Melbourne, and PhD from the University of Cambridge, with further degrees and experience recognised by Australia's peak bodies for librarians, archivists and record-keepers ALIA, ASA, and RIMPA. I am also an Associate Member of the Auctioneers and Valuers Association of Australia (AVAA) for expertise in appraising and valuing manuscripts, rare books, and archives.

Buying & Selling
I advise on any aspect of buying and disposing of rare books, manuscripts and documents, including aspects of authentication, provenance and due diligence based on Australian best practice and cultural collecting guidelines.

Auction Commissions
Services includes viewing lots before the sale, advising on appropriate bids, executing bids, and collating books after purchase. I am also in constant touch with all the major auction houses, and dealers in antiquarian and rare books, manuscripts and related materials in Australia and New Zealand.

Archives & Valuation
I can appraise, value and offer an independent assessment of the market value of your books, manuscripts and other art and heritage assets for purposes including: insurance, taxation (charitable donation, gift tax, estate tax), financial reporting, litigation, including claims of fraud, estate planning, prenuptial agreements, dissolution of marriage, business, or bankruptcy, and loan collateral.

Collections Services
I can advise on the management of your collections, including collection assessments, audit and inventory management, cataloguing, conservation and storage options; transfer and loan agreements, Cultural Gifts Program application submissions; and the development of policies, procedures, and collection governance frameworks.
